M503航路即將上路，兩岸國安單位不約而同釋出訊息，台灣由國安局首度說明，此航路將加深預警縱深，大陸方面則由國防部說明，這是一條空中和平通道，兩岸的相關軍事活動要為此航路讓出安全間隔。

耿雁生聲稱，M503航路是建立起一條空中和平通道，且兩岸的軍事活動都要為此航路讓出安全間隔，可以藉此紓解大陸航運的壓力，以及為兩岸和平帶來契機，將是兩岸民眾所樂見。

根據國防部的資料，從前總統李登輝於1999年拋出「兩國論」後，中共戰機在台灣海峽中線巡弋的次數增加，1999年達1100架次、2001年1500架次、2005年更達1700架次。至今，每天少則6到12架次，多的時候，甚至是18至24架次。

儘管馬英九上任以來積極推動兩岸關係，但大陸戰機卻持續巡弋，如今，有了M503這條空中和平通道，將隔開兩岸的軍事活動，也間接保障台海的安全。
